How to choose the right coach
Credentials matter less than fit. Five questions to ask in the first call.
A good coach can change the course of a career. A wrong match costs you months. The good news: you can tell the difference in a single introductory call, if you ask the right questions.
1. What does a typical session look like?
Listen for structure. The best coaches can describe how they start, how they end and what you leave with.
2. Who have you helped with a problem like mine?
Experience with your situation matters more than a long list of certifications.
3. How will we know it is working?
Agree on what success looks like before the first session: a new role, a promotion, a calmer week.
4. What do you expect from me between sessions?
Coaching works when you act. A coach who asks nothing of you is a pleasant conversation, not a coach.
5. Can I talk to someone you have coached?
Reviews on the profile are a start; a short conversation with a former client tells you even more.
